Sequential Compression

Three separate chambers within the compatible leg sleeve inflate sequentially to compress the leg in a “milking” sequence from distal to proximal.

This sequential inflation is designed to promote venous blood movement through the lower extremity.

Circumferential Sleeve Design

The sleeve bladders extend to each end of the sleeve so compression therapy can continue regardless of the sleeve’s rotational position.

This design may reduce the need for repeated sleeve repositioning and allows the sleeve to be rotated to help avoid tubing pressure near bony prominences.

Gradient Pressure Patterns

Each compression chamber inflates at a different pressure as part of the system’s gradient compression pattern.

Vascular Refill Detection

The Kendall SCD SmartFlow™ incorporates proprietary Vascular Refill Detection (VRD) technology.

VRD adapts compression therapy to the patient’s individual vasculature by measuring venous refill time and automatically adjusting compression cycle frequency.

The system automatically reassesses the patient’s venous refill time every 30 minutes to continually customise compression cycles.

How Vascular Refill Detection Works

1. Sleeve Inflation:
   The sleeve inflates while maintaining approximately 6 mmHg of pressure in the middle chamber of the calf during the refill assessment.
2. Refill Assessment:
   Pressure is maintained for up to 60 seconds while changes in calf girth are evaluated.
3. Venous Refill Detection:
   When calf girth stops increasing for approximately 10 seconds, the leg veins are considered completely refilled.
4. Customised Cycle:
   The vascular refill time is calculated and compression cycle frequency is adjusted according to the patient’s individual refill time.

Patient Sensing™ Technology

The patented Patient Sensing™ Technology automatically detects whether compression therapy is being applied to a patient.

If the controller does not detect a patient, it displays a notification and alert while continuing to perform compression cycles.

This feature complements Therapy Tracker by helping healthcare professionals better understand whether prescribed compression therapy is actually being applied.

Therapy Tracker

The Therapy Tracker monitors how long compression therapy is delivered during a shift, day or hospital stay.

Once a patient is detected, the controller tracks therapy and non-therapy time in the background and displays this information on the controller screen.

6-Day Therapy History

Healthcare teams can review patient therapy adherence across periods of up to six days.

Shift Look Back

The Shift Look Back option displays how much therapy has been provided over the most recent:
